Had to Make This It’s Own Entry

IMG_5049-copyI turned this cute little mermaid into a watered shaker card!!!  I know, this picture is impossible to see just how cool it really looks, but trust me, it’s pretty darn adorable!!  I started out with a watercolored background that I made several months ago.  It has such pretty colors in it and it was perfect for an underwater look.  I colored the images using my copic markers, once again and added some sequins to the water.  I also used the All Prettied Up by Mama Elephant die for the card front.  Lastly I added a few clear droplets to the front to imitate the look of water droplets.

These are my first entry into the NBUS challenge – ever!!  If you don’t know what the NBUS Challenge is, please check out my new friend, Darnell’s blog for all the wonderful details.

Ok, stay tuned for my next post containing my next entry.  I’m adding all my entries today because it’s the very last day of this challenge and frankly, it was the ONLY time I had available to enter!!  Thanks for taking a look at my post and I’ll see you in the next one…

Much love,

Misty

One Last Entry

Ok, I still have 11 minutes to enter my last card!!  I had to break and watch a movie with my hubby since we haven’t really seen each other for the past week.  Every waking moment I have been in my craft room preparing for my craft fair.  So I guess I should have entered this right after my mermaids entry since it kind of goes with the mythical creatures theme but that’s ok.  I’m entering it now.  So this is my 3rd and final entry into the NBUS Challenge that is just wrapping up over on Darnell’s blog.

IMG_5085

I used Magical Unicorns by My Favorite Things and All Prettied Up by Mama Elephant.  For the clouds I used Puffy Clouds by Lawn Fawn and some distress ink to get a soft pink cloud.  I colored the images with my copic markers, then I heat embossed the sentiment in silver embossing powder.  I added some wink of stella to the wings and the rainbow and popped the flying unicorn up on some foam adhesive.

And that is it folks!!  These cards were made not only for the NBUS challenge but also for the craft fair that I attended this weekend.  The craft fair was a blast, I had a great time.  It was the first outdoors event I’ve ever done.  It was extremely windy, but at least the sun was shining.  Ok, I’m off to bed to hopefully start catching up on some much needed sleep.

Til next time…

Part 2 of My Halloween Entry

I was on a Halloween roll when I made this card.  This is card #2 of entry #2 in the NBUS Challenge happening right now over on my friend’s blog.  It’s just about over, but she does it twice a year so head on over to Darnell’s blog by clicking here and discover what this NBUS challenge is all about!!

It’s more like I was on a skull roll…  For this one I used Apothecary by Stampers Anonymous again.  I got the inspiration for this card from the Ranger website.  I didn’t exactly CASE it, but I did use it as a guide since I really wanted something that looked similar to this.  Once again, I started out with a piece of manilla card stock and added some distress inks around the edges and inward.  I used Dusty Concord and Black Soot, after stamping the cursive writing stamp.   This was really fun, but also a challenge.  I cut out the eyes, nose and mouth with a blade.  I’m not the best with a blade, but I actually did pretty good on these. I used distress inks around all the openings to give it that aged look.  I used Antique Linen and Vintage Photo with a little Scattered Straw around the eyes and teeth.

This picture is at a better angle to show you the dimension on this skull.  I cut out 2 skulls, distressed both of them and popped the top one up on foam adhesive.  It looks really cool in person.  I even had to make another one of these Saturday night for a woman who wanted it as a baby shower card!!!  I had this displayed at the craft fair I just did over the weekend and as soon as she saw it, she asked if there was a way I could make one without the Happy Halloween so that she could use it as a baby shower card!!  She must’ve noticed the strange look on my face because she quickly added that it was a Halloween themed baby shower.  Here’s how that one turned out.

And this is my 2nd card for my 2nd entry into the NBUS Challenge.

You can check out my video tutorial of this card over on my YouTube channel by clicking here.

Stay tuned for my last entry…

Next Entry: Halloween!!

Hi again!!  Ok, I just learned that I have to write a separate post for each picture I want to add to Darnell’s NBUS challenge so we’ll try it this way now!!  My next entry goes a little darker than the cute little adorable mermaids I just wrote about.  Well, these actually go a lot darker.. Here is card #1 of entry #2.

What better way to showcase Halloween than with skulls and spiders and blood???  This was REALLY fun to make.  It started off as just a piece of manilla paper!!  I used Apothecary, Bitty Grunge and Mini Halloween, all by Stampers Anonymous, and I also used Nevermore by Inkadinkado.  My family is HUGE skull fans.  We even have a permanent Skull that hangs above our garage year round.  No really, we do!  His name is Dexter.  Anyway, I used distress ink to add color to the cardstock.  The colors I used are Antique Linen, Old Paper, Vintage Photo, Black Soot and a touch of Scattered Straw.  I stamped the skull using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then popped it up on foam adhesive, but first I colored it with my Copic Markers.  The colors I used on the skull are W0, W2, W4 and W6.  I’ve purchased all my copics from www.carpediemmarkers.com.  I then popped the entire card front up on some black fun foam.  I still wanted the skull to be my focal point so I popped it up with adhesive squares.  If you’d like to see how I made this card, click here to be re-directed to my YouTube channel.

Stay tuned for my next Halloween card as part of my 2nd entry.

My Entries Into the NBUS Challenge

Hello friends!!  Wow!  What a weekend it’s been!!  I just wrapped up a 2 day craft fair and right now I’m sitting at the front desk of our local Fire Department, waiting for the parade to start, writing my blog post.  Little disclosure, my Dad is the Fire Chief so it’s not all that unusual to be sitting at the front desk, waiting for the parade to start.  But let’s get to it!!  I have sooooo many other products that didn’t even see the light of day, but luckily this challenge happens twice a year and eventually, all of those NBUS will get the attention they so deserve..  So here is the first card I made.

IMG_5046-copy

I used Mermaid Kisses by Reverse Confetti along with Framed Tags, Madison Avenue by Mama Elephant for the frame and the scalloped background you see, I actually used my Silhouette to make!!  I LOVE that machine.

I colored the images with my copic markers and heat embossed the sentiment.  I used distress inks to get that ombre color behind the scalloped background.  I used Cracked Pistachio and Twisted Citron and added a few water drops for some added interest.  This little mermaid was so fun to color, that I decided to make another card using her as well.  This next one I’m very proud of.  I’ve never done anything like this before and it didn’t come without some challenges, that’s for sure…  All of which you can see in my YouTube video that I should have posted by the end of this week.

Hi friends!!  Well… It’s now 3 am and I wasn’t planning on posting this tonight, but I just couldn’t contain myself any longer.  I’m so excited and I can’t wait to share my entries with you for the NBUS Challenge!!!  It is going on right now, right this second!!  What the heck is the NBUS challenge you ask?  Well, it’s this BRILLIANT challenge created by my new friend, Darnell Knaus and PERFECT for anyone wanting to get their toes wet into the world of card making challenges.  Please head on over to Darnell’s blog to find out exactly what the NBUS Challenge is by clicking here.  And take a look around.  Darnell makes absolutely BEAUTIFUL cards and she’s pretty entertaining as well.  When you see what it is, you’ll be thinking she’s a genius for coming up with this idea!!

The best part is, the challenge is going on RIGHT NOW!!  It is in full swing but unfortunately I am spending every waking moment preparing for a local craft fair that is happening this weekend so I can’t even play along until the very last day, which is Monday, September 5th!!  Booooo!!!

Go check it out RIGHT NOW!!  Go on.  Well, finish reading my post first, and THEN go check it out.  You’ll be glad you did, trust me.

So much has happened since my last post and I’m really excited to share it all with you, but it will have to be AFTER Labor Day weekend while I’m getting my entries ready for the NBUS Challenge.  I was originally planning on just sharing my entries with you next Monday, but then I had the idea to at least share with you what it is so that you too can play along, if you’d like.  If I waited until Monday to share it with you, then the challenge would almost be over and you wouldn’t have very much time to play along.  So please stay tuned for next Monday when I share with you all my entries into the NBUS challenge which basically means sharing with you all of my latest cards I’ve made since my last post..

I hope this wasn’t too confusing.  Ok NOW you must head over to my friend, Darnell’s blog and find out just what the heck the NBUS challenge is!!

Until next time, my friends…
