Anything But a Card

Hi guys!!  I’m getting this post in at the last second of the last hour so I won’t be writing much.  I made this for the Always Fun Challenges blog and the theme this week is “Anything But a Card”.  I chose to do a couple bookmarks since I’ve been wanting to make some for awhile now.

I thought this was a great sentiment to go with a starry/galaxy background.

I made three because I wasn’t sure if I’d like it better on distress card stock or on 110 lb. Neenah Solar White card stock.  I actually like them both.  I also did one on the smooth side of the distress card stock and one on the textured side.  The one in the middle is the distress ink on the textured side.  That was my least favorite, but I’m still happy to have tried it all 3 ways.

Paper Piecing Challenge

Hello crafty friends!!  How many of you love to paper piece when making cards?  I know some people prefer it.  And then some, like me, forget all about it until I actually do it again and then I say to myself, “Why don’t I do this more often?”  I tend to say that a lot lately.  All these new challenges each week have me trying different techniques and new ideas.  I have to say, I love it!!  If you’re ever lacking imagination or creativity, I suggest joining a challenge or two.  That’s kind of crazy coming from me, who had only participated in 2 challenges before joining this design team.  I like to do the Simon Says Stamp weekly challenge on flickr when I can and I LOVE my crafty friends’ NBUS challenge that she does a few times a year.  NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) is the PERFECT way to dip your toe into the wonderful world of challenges.  We all have stamp sets that have never seen the light of day, am I right?

Anyway….  I’m getting a little off track here.  Let’s talk about this week’s theme at Always Fun Challenges.  Have you guessed what that theme is yet???  Well, if you guessed paper piecing, then you are absolutely correct!!  I decided to go with this flower image from Purple Onion Designs.  I absolutely LOVE this flower image.  From this angle, you can see the added dimension and how pretty that Victorian Velvet distress ink turned out.

I think floral images are fun to paper piece.  As are clothes.  I did a card awhile back using Stamping Bella’s Uptown Girls and I had a lot of fun paper piecing their dresses.  You can check out that process video by clicking here.

Well ladies, I do hope you’ll check out the Always Fun Challenge blog this week and enjoy all the amazing talent from the rest of our design team and all the entries as well.  Please join us if you can!!  As always, these weekly challenges are open for everyone to play along.

If you’re interested in watching my process for this card, you can click on my YouTube video below.  I’ve also added links to all the products I’ve used.  Thank you so much for stopping by.  I absolutely love hearing from you guys each week.  Until next week….

Home of the Free Because of the Brave

Hi there!!  Happy July 4th!!  This week’s theme is Patriotic at Always Fun Challenges.  This is my 2nd attempt at making a patriotic card.  The first one I made took quite awhile to make, but I didn’t like how it turned out.  I really wanted to use the fireworks stencil that was in the August 2016 card kit from Simon Says Stamp and it was going beautifully….  Until I put the sentiment on, and then I didn’t love it anymore.  Well, you’ll see.

I love how simple this one was though!!  Summer is a crazy time for my family and I so the simpler, the better right now.  I think I made this in 15 minutes maybe..?  Can you believe that??!!

I was making this in the wee hours of the morning and I was stressing out because I still had so much to do before I could go to bed.  I just couldn’t go with my first card.  As much as I still had to do, I had to remake something that I liked.

Ok, I’ll share my first card with you…  but don’t judge!!!  I liked it until I put the sentiment on it and then it was downhill from there.  I just don’t like the color it turned out.  I used Candied Apple Distress Ink but I wish I would have used something a littler darker.  I’m not sure that would have even mattered, but this is how it turned out.

See why I made another one?  It just doesn’t flow… or something.  I don’t know, I just don’t like it.  I love the fireworks though!!

Look how cool those turned out!!  Just wish the rest of the card would have turned out too.  Oh well.  We live and learn, right?

Check out the Always Fun Challenges website for more fabulous cards from the rest of the design team.

Until next time….
