Hello friends!! Welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. Thank you for joining us for the Bright and Cheerful Challenge and we hope you will all join us again this week too.
This week the challenge is
Anything Goes
We’re featuring WPlus9 products this week so if you have anything from WPlus9, we’d love to see you use it. If not, that’s ok too. You can still join the challenge.
Each week Simon Says Stamp generously gives away a $50 voucher to one randomly selected winner to use at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp store.
For this card, I knew I wanted to use several elephants and I wanted to have them look like they were being taken away by the balloons. To do that, I used Unforgettable and Bubble Talk by WPlus9. I arranged my elephants how I wanted them using my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, which was perfect for this card because it’s so tall. I’ve never made a tall card like this before but I had a lot of fun doing it. This card is pretty tall. It measures 4.25″ x 12″. But in order to get the elephants the way I wanted them and the balloons at the top, well, it just had to be this way.
Once I got my elephants placed and stamped on my copic friendly Xpress It Blending card, I stamped them again on full adhesive post it notes, cut them out and used them as masks. Once they were masked, I started making the clouds. I used the Lawn Fawn Puffy Clouds die to make my own stencils out of acetate.
For the clouds, I used distress inks and distress oxides. I started off with Fossilized Amber and Peacock Feathers distress oxides but they were starting to get a little too colorful for me (a sentence I never thought I’d say). I originally wanted the clouds to be a soft, subtle color. When I realized that the D.O. inks were getting too dark, I switched over to Squeezed Lemonade and Tumbled Glass distress inks. If I were to make this card again, I would have just started off using the distress inks instead of the distress oxides. I knew D.O.’s are rich in color so I’m not sure why I reached for them first.
I’m totally loving this upside down elephant… Is he not adorable???
After my clouds were done, I masked off a little hill using the Snowy Caps die by Avery Elle and SSS Masking Paper, but I could’ve just cut a slightly curved mask just as easy with just scissors. I used Mowed Lawn and Peeled Paint distress inks for the grassy area.
I tried out several color combos for the elephants and finally I settled on W1, W3 and W5.
Once I had my elephants colored, I started to color my balloons. My original idea was to have just 1 bright colored balloon at the top, but there was so much space at the top and I had colored several balloons trying to figure out what color I wanted at the top so I decided to just use them all. It certainly added more color to my card.
I popped the blue and purple balloons up with some double sided foam tape to add some dimension since I didn’t have any at this point.
Once I had everything colored, I added the balloon strings using a Copic multiliner .3 and stamped a couple hearts here and there. I finished the hearts off by going over them with the Clear Spectrum Noir glitter pen and glossy accents. I added a little bow to the highest elephants tail and went over it with the glitter pen and glossy accents as well. And since I was on a sparkle kick, I added a little to the inside of the elephants ears.
It was just what this card needed. I live for the little details like that.
I popped the whole card front up on some craft foam and then added it to a red card base.
Lastly, I added a few white Nuvo drops.
