Hello my crafting friends!! I’m here to share a card that I made for the Save the Crafty YouTuber Video Hop. I’m really excited to be participating in this hop again this year. If you don’t know what this is, well then let me tell you. This event was put together by a fellow card maker named Justine Hovey after YouTube changed their partnership program guidelines. This change affected smaller YouTuber channels, like mine by no longer allowing us to monetize our channels unless we met some pretty tall requirements. The only requirement that I have not met is the 4,000 HOURS of watch time in a 1 year time period. 4,000 hours!! So where I once was able to monetize my channel I am no longer in the partnership program until I reach that last requirement.

You’ll find crafters of all different styles and levels on this hop as well as YouTubers with all different size channels coming together to support one another and get our content out to you, our viewers so that you may find other cardmakers that you may not have found otherwise. Ok, enough guidelines talk, let’s talk about this card!! This Outline Clustered Leaves die by Simon Says Stamp is one of my favorites dies. As is the sister die simply called Clustered Leaves. The outline die has the leaves that pop out and the other is one solid piece. I thought it would be fun to make little mini shakers out of some of the leaves!

This card had a couple hiccups along the way, but one of the greatest things about card making is that there is always a way to fix a mistake. I don’t think I’ve ever thrown something out because it was ruined beyond repair. I’ve thought about it many times, but I always end up finding a way to fix whatever the problem is. That’s when I really get creative…

So to start off, I took a piece of Bristol Smooth card stock and cut it to about the size of the Clustered Leaves die. Then I ink blended Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet distress oxide inks. Next I cut the same image out of a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock cut to A2 size. In order to make the shakers work, I took a piece of craft foam cut to size and traced the openings of the leaves that I wanted to be the windows. I chose to make 3 leaves into little mini shakers. I cut the leaf shapes I traced on the craft foam using a craft knife.

I covered the openings on the backside with some scrap pieces of acetate and then glued the craft foam to that.

Before I finished the shakers, I went back to the front of the card and glued the ink blended leaves in place. I glued them right over the top of the image I cut out of the neenah solar white piece. I decided to add some silver thread behind the leaves die for a little extra interest. That almost turned into a disaster but luckily I was able to salvage it. In an attempt to cover up my botched thread debacle, I cut the solid clustered leaves die out of vellum. I was hoping to cover up some of the misguided thread, but it didn’t work. I ended up detaching the ink blended leaves and reworking the thread but in the process, I really liked how the vellum leaves looked so I decided to go ahead and use it too.

I used the Thanks die by Simon Says Stamp and CZ Designs for the first part of the sentiment and the Big Thanks Words stamp set also by SSS for the 2nd part of the sentiment. I cut the shadow die from some scrap black card stock and the top layer out of Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock. I heat embossed the 2nd part of the sentiment with Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder on black card stock and cut it out using one of the Sentiment Labels die so that I would have a perfectly straight sentiment. The sentiment labels die is one of my staples now. I find that I’m using it all of the time.

Now I was ready to complete the shaker leaves. I filled my little mini windows with SSS Assorted Moonshine Sequins and a few others. I cut 2 1″x3″ pieces of bristol smooth card stock and ink blended the same colors so that when you looked through the windows, you’d see the same colors as the leaves. I covered my shaker windows with those colored pieces and then attached the whole card front to a top folding card base which was Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock.

To finish off my card, I added a few Sugar Plum Jewels from Pretty Pink Posh to the front of my card and I was done!!
