Create Your Own Background – And Play To Win Distress Inks!!

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Use Your Favorite Tool

We are showcasing Tim Holtz Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

As always, the generous folks at Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $25 voucher to one randomly selected winner to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store.  You can enter 5 times which means you can make 5 different projects following this week’s prompt and have 5 chances to win a shopping spree!! Sounds like a win/win to me!! I’ve linked all of the supplies that I used at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

What’s your favorite craft tool? Is it your paper trimmer? Your die cutting machine? How about Distress Oxide inks? Well, those are my 3 favorite tools. I simply could not narrow it down any narrower. I’d love to hear what your favorite tool is. In fact, let me know what your favorite tool is and I’ll randomly select a winner to win 5 distress ink pads. I have 2 distress oxides and 3 distress ink pads to give away. All full size!! I’ll announce the winner in next week’s post.

Head over to my YouTube channel to see more of my videos

Do anyone struggle with patterned paper like I do? I love it. I have tons of it. But I rarely use it on a card. I like to keep things pretty simple and patterned paper just seems so over powering sometimes. So busy. Yet I see people use it all the time and make it work beautifully. I can’t do that for whatever reason. So when I thought about using the Baubles Layering Shifter Stencil by Tim Holtz to create my own background, I thought in a way, I’m creating my own patterned paper!! No need to be intimidated by it. Yes I said it. Patterned paper intimidates me. Unless I create it myself…

Check out my video above if you’d like to see a detailed tutorial of how I created this background. It was super easy and super quick to create.

I taped an A2 piece of Bristol Smooth card stock to my glass media mat and taped the Baubles Shifter Stencil on top using purple tape. Then I ink blended several distress oxide inks using a sponge dauber. I started with Picked Raspberry then moved on to Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon and ended with Wilted Violet.

I thought the background looked better going horizontally with the sentiment that I chose. I used the Proud of You wafer die by CZ Design. I chose this one because I hadn’t used this die yet and I don’t have any cards like this in my stash. Plus I wanted a sentiment with a shadow die so that I could use black and white card stock to really make it pop off of this colorful background.

I thought it needed a little something extra so I used one of my all time favorite dies from the Frames die set by Simon Says Stamp. I cut it out using black card stock. To bring it all together, I cut my background piece down to 4″ x 5.25″ and attached a piece of white craft foam to the back. Then I adhered it to a piece of black card stock cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″ aka US A2 size. I attached my whole card front to a top folding A2 size white card base.

To finish off my design, I added a few Metallic Silver Jewels by Pretty Pink Posh and then I was done!

Don’t forget to leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite craft tool is and I’ll randomly select someone to win 5 distress ink pads!! I’ll announce the winner in next week’s post.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

Watercolor Night Sky

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Reach For The Stars

We are showcasing our very own Simon Says Stamp Products this week.

I had so much fun making this card this week. I love doing night sky scenes because they turn out so different each time. I started out on a piece of Arches Cold Press Water Color paper. I cut it to a little over 8.5″ x 3.5″ so that I could tape it down to my cutting board. I used my Mijello Mission Gold Water Color Palette to create this beautiful night sky.

Once my background was dry, I stamped the star images from the Seeing Stars stamp set by Simon Says Stamp and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I also heat embossed the sentiment on a strip of black card stock.

I set my background aside and colored my adorable little bears image from the Bear Hugs stamp set by Mama Elephant with Copic markers. I used the Grassy Edges wafter die by SSS and some black card stock to cut out my grass. I wanted my bears popped up a bit so I used Thin Black Foam Squares on the back of my bears as well as on the grass.

I decided to put a little Vellum behind my sentiment to make it pop a bit more. I used one of the border dies from the Pretty Pink Posh Stitched Borders 3 set to cut the vellum and I used the Sentiment Labels die by SSS to cut out the sentiment strip. I added a banner end with my scissors, but the die does come with a separate die to add the banner edge. I added a few of those black foam squares to the back of the sentiment and placed it on top of the vellum.

To finish off my card, I used some Fog Card Stock on the inside and stamped a few of the images from the same Seeing Stars stamp set in clear ink.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

Kid Friendly Cards

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

For a Child

We are showcasing Honey Bee Stamps Products this week.

I had a hard time getting going on this week’s challenge. I realized I haven’t purchased any character or animal stamps in quite some time and that’s what I was hoping to use. The ones I do have are quite outdated so I decided to go with color. Color is always good for a child’s card. Once I got the color down, I just happened to have a couple of pups laying next to me on my desk. They were already put together so I added them to my card as well. The nice thing about these cards is you can give them to a child as well as an adult. With or without the pups. I love the Circle Doodle Background stamp that I used, it’s very versatile. Take that and throw some color over the top and you got yourself a nice start to a great looking card!!

I started out by heat embossing my background image in white embossing powder. Then I used several distress oxide inks and ink blended a nice rainbow of color. I used Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet.

I die cut the Painted Happy Birthday die by Simon Says Stamp in black three times for each card to give it some dimension. I used the HB sentiment for all 3 of my cards because I’m rather low on my Birthday card stash. These would be great with many other sentiments too. After I cut out three of my sentiments, I glued them together with my Tonic Precision Glue Pen. The glue pen is perfect for word dies like this. I decided it needed a little sparkle so I went over it with my Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen. To give it a finishing touch, I went over the Happy Birthday with some Tonic Crystal Glaze.

I used the Drifting Stitches Border die by SSS to give it a cute little whimsical feel and finished it off with a couple Nuvo drops in Ebony.

I LOVE these colors that I used so much that I decided to make two more backgrounds only this time I used only 3 colors on each. I used Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey and Squeezed Lemonade for the second background.

I did the sentiment the same way as before, but I used a different border die for this one. I used Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Scallop Borders die. This is when I noticed that I had two adorable pups staring at me from the side of my desk as if to say, “Pick me! Pick me!” How could I resist??

For my final card, I ink blended Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet.

I attached my sentiment to a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock that I cut down using the Drifting Stitches Border die.

I added my second Little Critter, Boston Terrier die to my final card and finished the look off with a few Nuvo drops in Ebony.

And here’s just a few more pictures.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

My First Slider Card

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Moving Parts

We are showcasing Lawn Fawn Products this week.

I have my first ever slider card to share with you this week!! While I know some people are probably thinking, “Slider card? That’s old news.” But for me, it is not. I don’t really know why I’ve never done one before. I’m sure a little intimidation had something to do with it. But I thought this was the perfect challenge to give it a try!!

How CUTE is this little whale??? I used several stamp sets and dies from Lawn Fawn to create this card. I won’t explain step by step what I did, I have a video posted above if you’d like to see how I made it, but I’ll list the products that I used. The whale is from the Get Well Before ‘N Afters stamp set. The fish are from Fintastic Friends and Keep On Swimming stamp sets. The clouds and sun are from my stash, but Lawn Fawn has almost the same clouds, they’re called Simple Puffy Cloud Frames die and a comparable sun is in the Spring Showers die set.

I used the Simple Wavy Borders die along with the Sandy Beach Accents die for the little wave accents. The sand was created with the Simple Stitched Hillside Borders die and the word “Thanks” was created using Simon Says Stamp’s Rounded Alphabet Small wafer die. And of course, the slider is from the Slide On Over die. I used Lawn Fawn’s Large and Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables die. I used the largest stitched rectangle out of both sets.

For the inside, I used Lawn Fawn’s Critters in the Sea.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

I’m so excited to be re-joining my fellow team members for this week’s challenge. I can’t believe it’s been 6 months since I was last able to make a card!! Well, I’m here and I’m ready to share my projects with you.

I used the Thinking of You Always stamp set by Pink and Main for both of my cards and I colored both with my Copic markers. Then I used Finetec Mica Pearlescent Watercolor paint to splatter some gold magic around. I cut my front panel down with the largest of Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Rectangles Stackables die . It measures 3.75″ x 5″. I added some craft foam to my front panel and attached it to a Lavender background. I attached everything to a top folding card base.

Copic Markers Used:

Purples: V17, V15, V12

Pinks: RV29, RV25, RV23

Reds: R46, R14

Blue: B00

Greens: BG75, BG72

I made another card using different colors. For this background I used Cotton Candy card stock by Simon Says Stamp.

Copic Markers Used:

Reds: R46, R27, R24

Oranges: YR07, YR04, YR02

Yellows: Y17, Y15

Pink: RV21

Greens: BG75, BG72

Send Happiness Release by Simon Says Stamp

Hello everyone!!! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it?? For those of you that don’t know, I’ve been suffering some pretty horrible health problems since December, but I FINALLY was able to have the surgery that I needed on June 3rd (since the one in February didn’t help) so I’m home and healing and feeling pretty good!! I’ve had a few setbacks only because I was so sick going into surgery. But that’s ok, I’m alive, I’m (getting) well and I’m sharing this wonderful new release with you!! I’ll include the entire release at the bottom of this post, but you can also click here and go directly to the Simon Says Stamp store.

For this card I used the new Lil Critters Boston Terrier wafer die. Isn’t he adorable? I thought about this after the fact, but how cute would a little bow be to make this into a sweet little girl pup?

So I cut this die out 3 times. Once with kraft card stock, once with SSS Ivory card stock and finally black card stock. Then to add a little interest I took Frayed Burlap distress ink and I ink blended around the edges of the kraft card stock part of the pup. I did the same with the Ivory parts using Antique Linen distress ink. And then obviously I used black card stock to cut the eyes and nose.

To make the eyes and nose pop a little, I went over them with my Tonic Aqua Shimmer pen and then added some Tonic Crystal Glaze to make them look nice and shiny. I set my Lil Critter aside to dry and I started to work on my background.

I used the Plank Background rubber stamp by SSS and using my brand new black Misti (which I’m so excited about since my old Misti had cracked at the hinges), I stamped it on 110 lb. Neenah Solar White card stock in Fog ink. I cut out a partial circle using the Simon Says Stamp Nested Circles die which unfortunately is currently out of stock. However the Circle Thin Frames die is a great alternative.

Using a scrap piece of Neenah Solar White card stock, I used a couple blending brushes to blend just a light layer of color. Mowed Lawn for the grass and Tumbled Glass for the sky, both distress inks. You could also just ink blend directly onto your card base and skip the extra layer, if you prefer. It makes for clean lines from the side profile. I glued everything together using Gina K Connect glue which is still my favorite liquid glue at the moment.

For the sentiment I used the stamp set You Got This from SSS and stamped it with Gina K Amalgam ink and the Friend wafer die also by SSS in black and white card stock. I cut the word “Friend” out three times with the white card stock and layered them together. I used a different glue to glue them together because the word is so small and any other liquid glue (that I have) would have been too much so I used a Tonic Smooth Precision glue pen. It’s perfect for smaller dies like this. I decided to pop my boston terrier up with some foam squares to add a little dimension and to finish it off, I added a few Onyx Crystals by Studio Katia. I attached everything to a top folding card base using the Gina K Connect glue and that’s it!!

Below you’ll find a list of all the products that I used to make this card and below that is the entire new release by Simon Says Stamp!!!

If you’re thinking about making a purchase, please use either my links or the images below, so that I will get a small commission (at no cost to you) which helps me to continue to create content to share with you all.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!! I’m so happy to be back in my craft room creating and I look forward to sharing my next project with you ~

Holiday Cheer

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Traditional Christmas

There are lots of ways to interpret this theme: Red and Green Colors, Nativity Scenes, Santa’s, Snowmen, the list is endless!

We are showcasing Tim Holtz Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

As always, the generous folks at Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $50 voucher to one randomly selected winner to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store.  You can enter 5 times which means you can make 5 different projects following this week’s prompt and have 5 chances to win a shopping spree!! Sounds like a win/win to me!! I’ve linked all of the supplies that I used at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

My interpretation of traditional Christmas is red and green. The funny thing is, I almost never create a red and green Christmas card. It might have red and green in it, but never is my card solely red and green. I like blues a lot or pink and green together. I would say I usually use non traditional colors. But this week I’m sticking with red and green!!

I used the Layering Stencil Shifter Baubles by Tim Holtz to create my background. I ink blended Barn Door and Lucky Clover distress inks and then cut out this decorative rectangle using the Stitched Creative Rectangles die by Studio Katia.

I used the Fa La La stamp and die for my sentiment and Fog card stock as my background. I attached it all to a top folding card base.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!
