Holiday Sparkle Release

Hello all. I’m so excited to share the newest release by Simon Says Stamp called Holiday Sparkle. Click HERE to be taken to the entire release. You do NOT want to miss this one. Be ready to fill that shopping cart!! I told myself I wasn’t going to place another order until next month, but I can already tell you that that’s not going to work.

I made a card to share with you specifically for this release. I used the Warm Christmas stamp set to make this card. Stay tuned because I’ve made a few more that I’ll be sharing very soon.

This card is super cool because it glows in the dark!! But let’s back up and start from the beginning. I started out with an A2 sized piece of Bristol Smooth Card Stock. I also made a second card using Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock because I wanted to compare the differences in the background. To be honest, they look pretty much identical. I think the color blend is slightly better on the bristol smooth card stock but not much at all.

I made a hilly mask using stencil material for a previous card and it was perfect for this card too. I made it myself because at the time I wanted the On the Horizon Lines Stencil but it was out of stock so since I have the stencil material on hand, I thought I’d just quickly make it myself until I can get my hands on the On the Horizon Lines stencil. I masked off the sky and covered the bottom of my panel with Simon Says Stamp Clear Ink. I also used a VersaMarker to get right up next to the mask.

For my sand, I used Hero Arts Sand Embossing Powder. I reversed my mask, now covering the sand and started to ink blend my sky. I used Salvaged Patina, Uncharted Marina and Villainous Potion Distress Oxide Inks. Before setting it aside to dry, I splattered the background with White Gouache and Liquid Stardust by Lawn Fawn. I love how sparkly the Liquid Stardust brings to my projects. I set the background aside to dry.

I colored the palm tree from the Warm Christmas stamp set with my Copic Markers and I fussy cut it out. I decided I wanted to try Lawn Fawn’s Glow In the Dark Stencil Paste on the lightbulbs to see if it was enough to make them glow and it is! They do!! I tried to capture it in a photo but I didn’t capture it well. I stamped the palm tree on my background panel so I could trim off the hanging ornaments making it much easier to fussy cut.

For the ornaments, I used Lawn Fawn’s Pixie Dust Sparkle Card Stock. To bring them alive, I went over the ornaments with Crystal Glaze to make them shine. For my sentiment, I heat embossed Alabaster White Embossing Powder on Black Card Stock and trimmed it down using one of Simon’s Sentiment Labels dies. Using an extra piece of Craft Foam I had floating around on my desk, I used it to pop up my sentiment. Before putting the sentiment on, I cut the entire background down using one of the A2 Layers dies by Waffle Flower.

I attached my panel to a side folding card base and my card was complete! I didn’t add any embellishments because I wanted to keep it simple and I thought the stars in the night sky were enough.

Kid Friendly Cards

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

For a Child

We are showcasing Honey Bee Stamps Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

As always, the generous folks at Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $25 voucher to one randomly selected winner to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store.  You can enter 5 times which means you can make 5 different projects following this week’s prompt and have 5 chances to win a shopping spree!! Sounds like a win/win to me!! I’ve linked all of the supplies that I used at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

I had a hard time getting going on this week’s challenge. I realized I haven’t purchased any character or animal stamps in quite some time and that’s what I was hoping to use. The ones I do have are quite outdated so I decided to go with color. Color is always good for a child’s card. Once I got the color down, I just happened to have a couple of pups laying next to me on my desk. They were already put together so I added them to my card as well. The nice thing about these cards is you can give them to a child as well as an adult. With or without the pups. I love the Circle Doodle Background stamp that I used, it’s very versatile. Take that and throw some color over the top and you got yourself a nice start to a great looking card!!

I started out by heat embossing my background image in white embossing powder. Then I used several distress oxide inks and ink blended a nice rainbow of color. I used Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet.

I die cut the Painted Happy Birthday die by Simon Says Stamp in black three times for each card to give it some dimension. I used the HB sentiment for all 3 of my cards because I’m rather low on my Birthday card stash. These would be great with many other sentiments too. After I cut out three of my sentiments, I glued them together with my Tonic Precision Glue Pen. The glue pen is perfect for word dies like this. I decided it needed a little sparkle so I went over it with my Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen. To give it a finishing touch, I went over the Happy Birthday with some Tonic Crystal Glaze.

I used the Drifting Stitches Border die by SSS to give it a cute little whimsical feel and finished it off with a couple Nuvo drops in Ebony.

I LOVE these colors that I used so much that I decided to make two more backgrounds only this time I used only 3 colors on each. I used Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey and Squeezed Lemonade for the second background.

I did the sentiment the same way as before, but I used a different border die for this one. I used Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Scallop Borders die. This is when I noticed that I had two adorable pups staring at me from the side of my desk as if to say, “Pick me! Pick me!” How could I resist??

For my final card, I ink blended Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet.

I attached my sentiment to a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock that I cut down using the Drifting Stitches Border die.

I added my second Little Critter, Boston Terrier die to my final card and finished the look off with a few Nuvo drops in Ebony.

And here’s just a few more pictures.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

Best Witches

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Halloween

We are showcasing My Favorite Things Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

As always, the generous folks at Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $50 voucher to one randomly selected winner to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store.  You can enter 5 times which means you can make 5 different projects following this week’s prompt and have 5 chances to win a shopping spree!! I can’t believe it’s already almost Halloween!! I’m not ready for the colder weather yet. But it was fun to make a Halloween card this week, before the Christmas cards start pouring out.

I started out on some Bristol Smooth card stock and ink blended Squeezed Lemonade and Barn Door distress oxide inks. I then took the Tim Holtz Stamptember stencil and some Nuvo Moonstone Glimmer paste and went right over the top of my ink blended background. This Stamptember stencil is no longer available, but Tim Holtz has a very similar one called Hocus Pocus.

I decided to splatter some Black Soot distress ink on the back ground for some added interest. I used the Halloween Hill die by Impression Obsession for the silhouette effect but I wanted to use the houses from the Best Witches stamp set by MFT so I just trimmed the house off the die and replaced it with the ghost filled houses.

I copic colored my images and popped the witch up with some foam squares. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Best Witches stamp set in white embossing powder.

To finish off my card, I used a Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen to add a little glitter here and there. I rounded the top corners and added my design to a top folding black card base. I used the same colors to add a panel to the inside so that a written message could be added. I thought it would be fun to add a few details to the inside with the Trick or Treat stamp set by SSS.

Copic colors used:

Witch: FYG2, YG25, YG23, YG21, V17, V15

Boots: T9, T6

Skin: E000, E00, E1, E13, R20, R30

Hair: E09, E15, E97

Broom: E47, E44, E43

Houses: C7, C5, C4, C3

Roof and door: C9, C6, Chimney N3

Fire Up The Fun

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Add a Number

We are showcasing Your Next Stamp Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

What kid doesn’t love firemen and fire trucks and policemen and K9’s? I thought this stamp set appropriately titled Fire Up The Fun was perfect for a kid’s Birthday card. Your Next Stamp also has an equally adorable stamp set called Freeze for those police fans.

As I was working on this post, I started to feel really crummy. So I will add the colors I used and my video as soon as I can. The way I’m feeling as I type this, I’m afraid I may be in the ER or on my way to San Francisco by the time this posts in the morning. So I’ll just add a couple of pictures for now and pray that I’m wrong and I will be back ASAP to finish adding some details.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

Welcome Sweet Baby

Hello crafty friends!!  I’m back with another super cute card featuring Simon Says Stamp Wild Cuddly Critters.  The theme this week at Always Fun Challenges is Zoo Animals, so I decided to go with one of my favorite zoo animals.  I also made a baby girl card with the adorable elephant in the set, which is another favorite of mine.  To be honest, I love all animals so all of them are my favorite!!

If you’d like to see the Valentine’s card that I made for my hubby last week, click here.

IMG_2275-copy

I am so happy with the way this one turned out.  As usual, I had no idea where I was going with this when I sat down to make it.  I knew I wanted to try a couple different ways to watercolor.  Here are the results:

IMG_0321

I ended up using the distress image on the left, but I was pretty happy with the way the others turned out as well.  I think the Zigs were my least favorite, but I would still use him.  I really liked the way the Peerless watercolored one turned out too.  I used Gathered Twigs, Scattered Straw and a little bit of Vintage Photo for the hooves and nostrils.

IMG_2280-copy

I used Simon Says Stamp ink for the sentiment in Slate and then some Sea Breeze Nuvo Drops for an added embellishment.

And here is the card I made for a baby girl.  I love how this one turned out too!!

IMG_2304-copy

I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brushes for this cutie.  I used 091 Light Gray, 095 Dark Gray and a little 028 Pale Pink for the ears and cheeks.  For the polka dot background I used Distress Oxide inks in Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet.

Please join us this week and share your zoo animal themed cards by going to the Always Fun Challenges blog.  We have a new theme every week that everyone is welcome to join and we always have super fun themes.

I’ll see you next week ~

I Really Like You. Like Really

Hello fellow crafters!!  Hope everyone is refreshed and ready to take on a brand new week.  I know I am.  I took a couple of weeks off to prepare for my notary exam and I just took the test last week so I’m back to share a new card with you!  If you’d like to see the adorable “Down On the Farm” card I made for the last challenge I did, click here.

The theme this week at Always Fun Challenges is Anything Goes.  I’m not really sure what category this card would fall under.  It’s not necessarily a Valentine’s Day card because it doesn’t say anything about Valentine’s.  It’s not really a love card… Would it be a “like” card??  I don’t know.  It’s a happy card though.  I was super excited to use SSS’s January card kit so that’s exactly what I did!!  This is definitely one of my favorite card kits.  It had some really great elements to it.  I LOVE the stamp set.  As I said in my video, I love that there’s a couple of images that you can use for a sentiment or you could use to make a background.  I chose to make a background with the ‘xoxo’ stamp.  IMG_2206-copy

I started out with some Tim Holtz watercolor paper and die cut my heart.  Then after heat embossing my sentiment, I used a couple distress oxide inks to do some ink blending.  When I was done with the heart, I quickly cut out another heart from vellum in the next heart size up.  I moved on to the background which was super easy.  I just picked out a nice gray ink and stamped the ‘xoxo’ image over and over.

IMG_2217-copy

I also used the gorgeous Distress Glitter Dust (also in the kit) to make a strip of glitter for the front of my card.  Cut out a few little hearts, some SN clear glitter pen and a little glossy accents and we have a card!!

IMG_2205-copy

I love the little block words that also come in this stamp set.  I thought this sentiment was super cute.  There’s all kinds of possibilities.

IMG_2214-copy

I made this for the Always Fun Challenges blog and I’m also entering it into the SSS Flickr Challenge and the SSS Wednesday Challenge.

We’d love for you to join us this week for Anything Goes over at the AFC blog.  Just click here and I’ll take you right to where you need to go.

If you’re more of a visual person, like myself, below you’ll find a video so you can see exactly how I made it.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today.  I’ll see y’all next week!!

One Layer Card

Hi folks!!  Hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year.  I have a one layer card to share with you guys today.  I chose to use some adorable images from Purple Onion Designs.  They are one of my favorite stamp companies.

I chose Birch the Bunny because I had our rabbit, Thumper in mind when I made this card.  Unfortunately we lost him on New Year’s Day.  I’m still pretty heartbroken about it.  He was such a cool creature.  I had never had a rabbit before so it was definitely a learning experience for us, but he turned out to have such a cool personality and I fell in love with him.  Our dog, Bentley was “playing” with Thumper and we don’t really know what happened.  We thought he was in shock, I held him for about 10 minutes then was told to put him in his cage, where he’s familiar with the smell and put a blanket over it to darken it.  We did that.  I went to check on him about 30 minutes later.  I sat there with him and watched his breathing and the way he was acting, something was off.  Then his breathing started to slow way down.  Then he just quit breathing.  The boy’s were pretty devastated.  I’m still pretty devastated.  I feel awful for letting him down.

But enough with all this sadness.  Let me move on before I can’t.  I made this card in honor of my dear Thumper.  The theme this week at Always Fun Challenges is One Layer card.  I’ve made a process video, if you’d like to see how I made this.

Happy Halloween!!

Happy (early) Halloween!!  I’m so excited to announce this weeks’ theme for the Always Fun Challenges blog.  Have you figured it out yet??  It’s HALLOWEEN!!!  I LOVE Halloween!!  I’ve been working all month on getting our road closed to traffic on Halloween.  Which, I’ve learned, requires an encroachment permit.  That means I had to get signatures from every house on our entire street!!  The good news is, the City has agreed to close it!!  WOOHOO!!  The population of Fort Bragg is a little less than 7,300 and we handed out candy to a little less than 1,300 kids last year…  That’s just crazy!!  No one knows why the entire town comes to this street for Halloween, but they do.  And we LOVE IT!!  It was just getting too dangerous to have vehicles driving up and down with that many kids.  At some points while I was handing out candy last year, I looked up and the line was out into the middle of the street!!  I wish I would have taken pictures, but we’re always soooo busy!!  They start coming at about 4pm!!  Here are a couple pix that I did manage to get from last year.

IMG_9379-copyIMG_9374-copyIMG_9377-copy

Speaking of Halloween, let’s talk about this card I made.

IMG_1610-copy

If you can’t tell by looking at this, I was greatly inspired by Vicky Papaioannou’s “Glowing Moon Technique” card.  She does this background MUCH better than I, but I still had a lot of fun making this one.  The card came together pretty easy.  First I made the distress oxide background, and then I created the moon and placed my Silhouette witch (design ID #65963) over the top and lastly I added my sentiment.  As you know, if you’ve read any of my posts or watched any of my videos lately, quick and easy are about all I have time for these days.

I added some Shimmer Spray to top it off.  Can you see it?  It looks really cool in person.  Pictures just don’t show the cool details sometimes.

If you’d like to join us this week, just make something Halloween related and click here to add it to our challenge or go to the Always Fun Challenges blog and add it there.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope everyone has a Spooktacular Halloween!!!

Well Hello There… Distress Oxides again

Hi again!!  I’m back with some more distress oxide backgrounds.  I just can’t get enough of these!!  I want to take an entire day and just play.  In a perfect world, I’d actually have time to do that, but until then, I’ll settle with experimenting as I go.  I had a lot of fun playing around with these last week too, I actually ended up making a few cards which is always nice.  Seems like I just don’t have all that much time to make cards these days.  These boys keep me on my toes!!   You can check out my last week’s cards by clicking here.

This card was SUPER easy and super quick.  The theme this week at Always Fun Challenges is Dies and/or Punches.   I’m going to try and keep this post short and sweet as I am in the middle of yet another Birthday sleepover weekend.  This time for my son’s BFF that is living with us.  Hey!  My Birthday is tomorrow (Oct. 2), maybe I should have a sleepover too!!!!  That could be kinda fun, if I had some crafty friends that lived close by.  We could craft the night away!!

IMG_1535-copy

I have to show you how cute these boys are.  I just love them with all I got.  This is everyone singing Happy Birthday to Bub.  Mine is the one on the far right and Bubby is his BFF.

IMG_3641-copy

Here’s a recent one that I absolutely love.  My friend had just made this shirt for me so we were showing some Jr Cubs spirit.  This was right before a game.  I shared this on my IG, but I love it so much, I thought I’d share it here too.

IMG_3501

And one more of my card…

IMG_1537-copy

I am TOTALLY late to the show, but my crafty friend, Darnell is currently running her NBUS challenge so I’m also entering this into her 10 day long challenge.  This is one that I’m sure everyone can enjoy.  NBUS stands for Never Before Used Schtuff and if you guys are anything like me, you could participate in this every day for a month and still not get thru all of your NBUS…  Please check out her blog for all the details and follow her!!  She’s hilarious and she does this challenge a few times a year.  It’s the perfect push to use those products that you’ve never used before.

Anyway, below is a very simple video and below that is a list of the products that I used.  Thank you so much for stopping by!!  And I’ll see y’all next week ~

That said, I never recommend anything I don’t personally use and find to be a valuable asset to my business.  Any time you use an affiliate link, I greatly appreciate it.

Playing with Oxide Inks

Hi friends!!  I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.  I had a crazy weekend, but I did find a little time on Sunday to play with the few distress oxide inks that I own.  I will say that after playing with these, I’ve gone ahead and ordered 7 more!!  I keep hearing people say how easy they are to blend and they are NOT exaggerating!!  These inks are AWESOME!!!  I’ve added a process video at the end of this post so you can see for yourself.

So in case you’re wondering what the theme is this week at Always Fun Challenges, it’s “Anything Goes”.  My favorite!!  I had so much fun playing with these inks, that I didn’t stop at just one card.  I made three!!!  Which is kinda crazy considering I didn’t even have a card made yet as of Saturday, the day I’m supposed to turn my project in (like I said, it’s been a crazy busy weekend).

I watched a video by Jennifer McGuire where she used stencils and oxide inks and it looked like a lot of fun so I gave it a whirl.  This is my version.  I only have 6 oxide inks at the moment so I started out using Cracked Pistachio and Broken China.   I spritzed some water on my stencil and placed it on top of my blended background and left it alone for a couple of minutes.  When I pulled the stencil off, I ooh’d and awed for a couple of seconds and then started on another one.

Once I got the feel for how these inks blend, I added in some Faded Jeans.  I absolutely LOVE how they turned out.  This next one I did, I used a more delicate stencil so I was a little worried that it wouldn’t turn out as good.  I made this stencil with my Silhouette Cameo awhile back and I think this was my first time using it.  The top part doesn’t pop as much as the rest of it, but I’m ok with that.  While less of the surface reacted to the water, I still love it.  It just has a more delicate look, is all.

I saved my favorite one for last.  I made this stencil with my Silhouette as well and even though I covered up a lot of the background with the vellum, you can still see the awesome reaction to water!!  I am in love with distress oxide inks.  Not only do they blend so seamlessly, but they have such a cool reaction to water!!  All distress inks do, but this is just sooo cool.  I can’t wait to get more colors now.  I added some vellum behind my sentiment, added a few clear Nuvo drops and tied some twine around the bottom and voila!!  Card complete.

Thanks for stopping by!!  Below is a process video where you can see for yourself how smooth these inks blend.  Below that is a list of all the products I used.  Until next time…
