Another School Year

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Back To School

We are showcasing Memory Box Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

As always, the generous folks at Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $25 voucher to one randomly selected winner to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store.  You can enter 5 times which means you can make 5 different projects following this week’s prompt and have 5 chances to win a shopping spree!! Sounds like a win/win to me!! I’ve linked all of the supplies that I used at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

My son is going into his sophomore year of high school so I think he’s a little too old for back to school cards, but I had a blast making this one anyway.   Maybe not too old for a card, but definitely too old for this adorable one. He wouldn’t appreciate the cuteness.

I colored my images from the Book Worm stamp set by Mama Elephant using my copic markers. I always use X-Press It Blending Card when I copic color because I find it blends the markers the best. Anything to help get that smooth transition from one color to another. I set them aside and started to work on the background.

I used a Lawn Fawn die called Quilted Backdrop for my background and placed it over an A2 size piece of Sea Glass card stock. I have a wood flooring die by Penny Black that I was planning on using, but it only fits a vertical card and well I just couldn’t make it all fit vertically. So I improvised. I used some Woodgrain Kraft card stock by Simon and I distressed it around the edges using Walnut Stain distress ink. For the baseboard, I just cut a 1/4″ strip of the woodgrain card stock twice and stacked them together.

I framed the entire scene using a die from the Stitched Rectangle Trimmings die by Memory Box. I cut it out using Holographic Rainbows card stock by Simon to match my rainbow colored books. I cut it out two more times using black card stock in order to give it a little dimension. And because I’m here for the dimension, I also popped the books and animals up on some foam squares so they would pop off the page as well.

My sentiment is from the Love That Student stamp set by Simon Says Stamp and CZ Design. I heat embossed it with white embossing powder on black card stock and used this adorable picture hanging bow from an old Avery Elle diet set. It was perfect for my wall. I used the smallest of the Stacked Deckle dies from Tim Holtz and Sizzix for the picture itself.

Ok, can we just talk about how adorable this little worm with glasses is??? I knew I had to incorporate him somewhere on this card. I love the glasses, I love the kitty with glasses as well. I can see myself using these two on several different kinds of cards.

I used some Nuvo Crystal Glaze on the glasses to get that reflection and it’s perfect for this! I also added some Nuvo Aqua Shimmer on the pages of the books because I honestly don’t know if I can make a card without adding something sparkly. I attached my entire panel onto a top folding card base and my card was complete.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

Holiday Friends

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Christmas Critters

We are showcasing Mama Elephant Products this week.

Happy Holidays my dear friends!!! This might be my last post for a couple of weeks so I wanted to go out with a bang. I’ve got ongoing health issues that now require me to be hospitalized for awhile so I’m not sure when I’ll be back. But I wanted to say Happy, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy New Year and all that good stuff before I go. I’m so thankful that you actually take the time to ready my posts and view my cards, it means a lot to me.

I decided to make not 1 but FOUR cards this week featuring these adorable winter friends from Mama Elephant. I hope you enjoy them and have a very safe Holiday!!

I used the Mama Elephant Fuzzy Hugs stamp set to create my cards this week. For this card, I lightly ink blended a background on Bristol Smooth Card stock with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide ink. I wanted to keep my cards mostly white this week. I think it makes the red really pop. I colored these cuties with my copic markers.

Using a Forest Border die by Lawn Fawn, I cut my background trees out of this beautiful Pixie Dust Sparkle card stock. The Merry die is also from Mama Elephant I found it in my stash today.

I used Mama Elephant’s All Prettied Up Creative Cuts die for my card front and an oval die in the center.

I attached everything to a side folding white card base and added a few Arctic Breeze Pearls as an embellishment.

I used the Basic Set Creative Cuts die for this next card. And then I ink blended Milled Lavender Distress Oxide ink for the background.

I used Simon Says Stamp’s Fa La La die and some silver glitter card stock for my sentiment. I thought the Drifting Stitches Borders die would be a perfect backdrop for these little love bears. And since it’s a Christmas card, I had to add a little bit of chunky glitter to my snowy hills.

I colored these love bugs with copic markers and added a little Unicorn Confetti Glitter to the puff ball on his/her hat. I attached everything to a side folding card base.

To finish it off, I added a few of my favorite Arctic Breeze Pearls.

I used Peacock Feathers for a light ink blend on this one. The sentiment is from the same Fuzzy Friends stamp set. I used the Large Falling Snow Stencil and some texture paste to add a little snow fall. I added a little warm glow to the top of these bears so that the light from the lamp post would reflect off of them.

Once again I used the Basic Set Creative Cuts for this card and attached everything to a top folding card base.

For my final card, I used the All Prettied Up die again and ink blended Blueprint Sketch for my background.

I also used the Merry die by Simon Says Stamp and some Ruby Red Mirror Card to make that sentiment pop. I thought it would be fun to add a little snow a different way so I just used a glue pen and placed dots of glue here and there and then poured some Unicorn Confetti glitter all over it.

I attached everything to a top folding card base and added a few Arctic Breeze Pearls to finish it off.

now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

Fire Up The Fun

Hello crafty friends!! Please join me for a new challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week the challenge is

Add a Number

We are showcasing Your Next Stamp Products this week.  If you have any of these products, we’d love to see them used, but it’s certainly not a requirement to join the challenge.

As always, the generous folks at Simon Says Stamp will be giving away a $50 voucher to one randomly selected winner to shop at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp Store.  You can enter 5 times which means you can make 5 different projects following this week’s prompt and have 5 chances to win a shopping spree!! Sounds like a win/win to me!! I’ve linked all of the supplies that I used at the end of this post. Compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

What kid doesn’t love firemen and fire trucks and policemen and K9’s? I thought this stamp set appropriately titled Fire Up The Fun was perfect for a kid’s Birthday card. Your Next Stamp also has an equally adorable stamp set called Freeze for those police fans.

As I was working on this post, I started to feel really crummy. So I will add the colors I used and my video as soon as I can. The way I’m feeling as I type this, I’m afraid I may be in the ER or on my way to San Francisco by the time this posts in the morning. So I’ll just add a couple of pictures for now and pray that I’m wrong and I will be back ASAP to finish adding some details.

So now it’s YOUR turn. Happy Crafting!!

I chose to make a shaker card this week.  I used the Summer Days stamp set by Mama Elephant along with the Framed Tags Madison Avenue die for the frame.  I also used an older die called Stitched Clouds to cut out my sand but I don’t think that die is available any longer.
IMG_3336-copy
As usual, I didn’t really know where this challenge would take me when I sat down to make it.  I started out by watercoloring the adorable animals with some distress inks but I wasn’t really liking how they turned out.  So I pulled out my Faber Castell polychromos colored pencils and added some details to them.

I especially love how the palm tree turned out.

I tucked the cute little pig on the inside.

Welcome Sweet Baby

Hello crafty friends!!  I’m back with another super cute card featuring Simon Says Stamp Wild Cuddly Critters.  The theme this week at Always Fun Challenges is Zoo Animals, so I decided to go with one of my favorite zoo animals.  I also made a baby girl card with the adorable elephant in the set, which is another favorite of mine.  To be honest, I love all animals so all of them are my favorite!!

If you’d like to see the Valentine’s card that I made for my hubby last week, click here.

IMG_2275-copy

I am so happy with the way this one turned out.  As usual, I had no idea where I was going with this when I sat down to make it.  I knew I wanted to try a couple different ways to watercolor.  Here are the results:

IMG_0321

I ended up using the distress image on the left, but I was pretty happy with the way the others turned out as well.  I think the Zigs were my least favorite, but I would still use him.  I really liked the way the Peerless watercolored one turned out too.  I used Gathered Twigs, Scattered Straw and a little bit of Vintage Photo for the hooves and nostrils.

IMG_2280-copy

I used Simon Says Stamp ink for the sentiment in Slate and then some Sea Breeze Nuvo Drops for an added embellishment.

And here is the card I made for a baby girl.  I love how this one turned out too!!

IMG_2304-copy

I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brushes for this cutie.  I used 091 Light Gray, 095 Dark Gray and a little 028 Pale Pink for the ears and cheeks.  For the polka dot background I used Distress Oxide inks in Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet.

Please join us this week and share your zoo animal themed cards by going to the Always Fun Challenges blog.  We have a new theme every week that everyone is welcome to join and we always have super fun themes.

I’ll see you next week ~

Herd You Had a Birthday

Howdy partner(s)!!!  Hope everyone had a great weekend.  Are you ready for another super fun theme this week at Always Fun Challenges???  If you’d like to see what I created for last week’s theme, which was One Layer, click here.  Now, for this weeks theme, this was totally out of my comfort zone, but I made it work.  The theme is Down On The Farm.

I didn’t even get this one completed until Saturday afternoon.  I had a heck of a time coming up with this one.  I’m so glad I did it though.  Like I said, this took me out of my little comfort bubble, but check out the result.

IMG_2144-copy

I used a never before used stamp set (AKA NBUS) called Lunar Animals by Mama Elephant.  I used a NBUS paper pad and a NBUS die from MFT.  Too bad Darnell wasn’t doing her NBUS (Never Before Used Schtuff) challenge right now, this one would totally qualify!!  It may not be going on now, but you should check out her blog for the NBUS challenge that she does a couple times a year.  It’s a lot of fun.

This was another one that I completely winged it as I went.  I had no idea how this was going to turn out.  While this is not my normal style, I still think it turned out ok.  I think it would be perfect for a kid’s Birthday.  The inside reads, “Have a Moo-tiful Day!!”

IMG_2145-copy

Another out-of-my-element fun fact is that I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens to color these cute little farm animals.  I’ve had these pens for awhile now, but I’ve been quite intimidated by them.  I tried them when I first got them and I just didn’t like them.  Or I should say I didn’t like my results.  But the more videos I’ve seen of people using them, the less intimidating they seem so I decided to give them another try.  I was actually pleasantly surprised.  I really like them!!  As long as I had a water brush right next to me at all times and a super fine paint brush, I felt comfortable.  I felt like I could handle it without holding my breath the entire time.

IMG_2141-copy

Anyway, I hope you’ll join us over at Always Fun Challenges this week by clicking here and linking your “Down on the Farm” creation.

Hello Friend

Hi guys!!  I’m back with another card and a new theme for this week over at Always Fun Challenges.  The theme this week is Black and White.  How fun is that?  You can do just about anything with B & W!!  I started off thinking I was going to be making a Halloween card, since Halloween is right around the corner, but at the last minute, I decided to go with a ‘Friend’ card.  If you’d like to see what I made for last week’s challenge, click here.

IMG_1584-copy

You can never have too many of these kinds of cards and I really wanted to use this embossing folder again, so this is what I came up with.

I had a little bit of a rocky go with the background, which you can see in my video below, but in the end, I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.  And I LOVE the little flower die that was included in last month’s card kit for Simon Says Stamp.  It was the perfect addition.

Well, it’s family night at the Elam Residence so I’ll leave you with a video and a list of all the products I used.  Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see y’all next week!!

Watercolored Thank You Card

Hi friends!!  I’m back to share another super easy yet super fun watercolor card with you.

IMG_4932

I’m totally loving how this turned out.  I used Strathmore 140 lb. Ready Cut Watercolor paper and Delicate Surface Frog Tape to tape it down.  I recommend the Delicate Surface instead of the original because I’ve heard that some people have problems with the tape tearing their paper when they try to remove it and I’ve never had a problem with the Delicate Surface tape.  It peels off beautifully.  I’m also going to use distress inks for this card.

IMG_7166.m4v

And yes, this is attached to a pizza peel…  Hey!  It works beautifully.  I can tip it by propping the handle up so that the colors will run down or lay if flat if I don’t want the colors to run.  For this particular card, I did want the colors to kind of work their way down.

I used Seedless Preserves, Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers distress inks.  I put a layer of color on and then I used my heat tool to dry it.

IMG_7166.m4v1

I repeated this process 5 times.  You can do it however many times you want, that’s the beauty of watercolors.  Once I got the background the way I wanted it, I used Wonky Stitched Rectangle die by MFT to cut my background out.

IMG_7166.m4v2

I was trying to decide which color I wanted at the top and how much of that color I wanted to show.

IMG_7166.m4v5

Once I cut the background, I decided to add some paint splatters before I added my sentiment.  I used the gold from my Gansai Tambi watercolors to do the splattering.  You can also purchase the individual color blocks if you don’t want to purchase the entire set.

IMG_7166.m4v6

Once I had my paint splatters on, I used my Mini Misti to ink up the greeting with VersaMark ink.  The watercolor paper is kinda bumpy, especially after hitting it with my heat tool so many times, so the mini Misti is perfect for this.

IMG_7166.m4v7

I then added gold embossing powder  to my greeting which is from the Thank You Wishes stamp set by Mama Elephant.

IMG_7166.m4v8

Look how gorgeous that gold embossing powder is.  This is one of my favorites.  After I admired the embossing powder for a minute, I added a few sequins here and there.

IMG_7176.m4v

I stuck with the gold theme by using Little Things by Lucy’s Cards in Champagne.  I always use my smallest acrylic block to keep the sequins pressed down while they dry.  When I use my hand to do it, it seems like I always put too much pressure on it and then the glue smooshes out the sides..

IMG_7176.m4v9

The largest of the Wonky Stitched Rectangle die measures 4″x5.25″ so I was planning on just having either a white or black border around it, but it just didn’t look right.  I wanted the colors from the watercoloring to take center stage without any competing colors so I just trimmed my card base down to 4″ x 5.25″.

IMG_7180.m4va

Next I added the sentiment on the inside and I used this really cool transparent grid that you can purchase to use with your Mini Misti.  I sometimes have a hard time getting my sentiment straight, especially when it’s a scripty font like this.  This grid is perfect for that.

IMG_7181.m4vb

I don’t know how we did it before the Misti was invented.  Oh wait, I didn’t.  I was just becoming a card maker, I believe..  I love using Intense Black ink by Simon Says Stamp for most of my cards, but I do need to ink it up twice every time.  I’m not sure why, but again, this is exactly what the Misti was made for.  I can ink it as many times as I want and I know I will get it in the exact location every time.

So the sentiment you see above is from the set Lovely Spring by SSS.

IMG_7181.m4vc

And since this is a Thank You card, I added one of these card inserts that Jennifer McGuire so kindly shared on her blog here.  It’s a Pass It On insert so that your recipient can remove your message and reuse your card!!  I love using this for Thank You cards especially because it’s like you’re giving your recipient a little gift!  I always use removable adhesive to adhere it down.

IMG_7181.m4vd

I added a more personal sentiment for my recipient which is from the Up and Away set from Mama Elephant and a more general sentiment for her to use, if she chooses to reuse this card.

IMG_7181.m4vf

And lastly, I added my message and my card was ready for the mail!!  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  If you would like to see exactly how I made this card, you can go to my YouTube channel and watch me make it by clicking here.

This may be my last post for a week or so.  I have a craft fair coming up on Labor Day weekend and I’m spending sooo much time on here and editing my YouTube videos, that I’m not getting any cards made!!  But I will be back as soon as possible.  I really enjoy this new blog and editing my videos so I won’t be gone long.  I can’t.  I’ll start having withdrawals.  Thanks for understanding.  I hope you have a fantabulous day and I’ll catch ya next time ~
